How to play
  • The game presents you sixteen players in a random order. Your task is to group these players into four groups of four based on the team and season they played together.
  • For example, consider eight players from numbered game 1:
You can see that Erik Karlsson, Hertl, Burns, and Melker Karlsson played for the Sharks in 2018-2019, and Hoffman, Stone, Zibanejad, and Legwand played for Ottawa in 2014-2015. You would group them as such:
    Submitting:
    SJS2018-2019
    Erik KarlssonTomas HertlMike HoffmanBrent Burns
You'd then select the Ottawa players and submit to complete the board.
  • Some players may be eligible for multiple groups as in the case above, but you'll notice that if you used Karlsson in the Senators group, you wouldn't be able to solve the Sharks group, and so the given Senators group is the only correct answer. For a given group of sixteen players, there will only be one correct 4x4 grouping. (I call options like Karlsson β€œsnakes” since they exist solely to bite you.)
  • Player groupings are colored based on their recency:
    • 🟨 Most recent
    • 🟩 ↓
    • 🟦 ↓
    • πŸŸͺ Least recent
  • There will never be a game with duplicate teams or seasons, so you you will never have to discern the 2014-2015 Senators from the 2015-2016 Senators, nor will you have to discern the 2014-2015 Senators from the 2014-2015 Sharks.
  • A red heart means the player seasons are selected from after the 2004-2005 lockout, the pink means since the 2012-2013 lockout, and blue means from 2018-2019. Players will always have played at least 50 games for the team in the season in which they are grouped.
